8" x10" , view camera photographs taken by Abraham Ravett in the early 1980's of the Brighton Beach neighborhood in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Thirty years later, these photographs have become an historical record of a neighborhood in transition and a lingering visual embrace of the landscape that shaped the photographer's youth. They convey impressions, fantasies, longings and fears that the photographer had in his early 30’s while at the same time, reflecting upon his evolving interest in the photographic traditions that informed his practice.

Abraham Ravett is an independent filmmaker, photographer and educator who teaches at Hampshire College, Amherst, MA.
